MORE BMW 750i @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com Just like a kid writing a 10th-grade term paper, the 2009 BMW 750i is just begging to mention the guy who said, “The successful revolutionary is a statesman, the unsuccessful one a criminal.” In other words, one man’s Thomas Jefferson is another’s Guy Fawkes. After being flamed with criticisms of its Bangle-butt styling and infernal iDrive controller, the last-generation BMW 7 Series seemed to be a shoo-in for criminal indictment. When this …

www.edmunds.com If the idea of a diesel-powered sedan like the new BMW 335d is too hard to swallow, maybe the 2009 BMW X5 diesel will make more sense to you. After all, it weighs 2.5 tons, so it could use a little extra engine torque. And it’s a truck, sort of, so you won’t look nearly as silly when you pull up to a pump at Big John’s 24-hour Truck Spa on your next road trip.

Not much fuel-efficiency, mind you. On the highway, the X6 Hybrid’s EPA number goes up two notches, but it still doesn’t crack 20 mpg (its 19 mpg) while the city numbers goes from a paltry 12 mpg to a more respectable 17 mpg.

FOR DETROIT AUTO SHOW AT INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com First off, let’s skip right past the part where we have to explain that the 2009 BMW Z4 Roadster is actually a hardtop convertible, complete with a two-piece aluminum roof that electrohydraulically deploys from the trunk in 20 seconds. This new model takes the place of the former Z4 roadster and coupe models, and it’ll be built in Regensburg, Germany, now that BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is devoted solely to X models. The Z4 looks the same with its 98.3-inch wheelbase, but the hardtop model is slightly larger overall, now measuring 166.9 inches in length (5.8 inches longer), 70.5 inches in width (0.4 inch wider), and 50.8 inches high (0.4 inch lower).

FOR MORE ABOUT THE X1: www.edmunds.com The world might not need yet another wagon-style, pseudo-SUV compact crossover, but it’s going to get one next year in the form of the 2010 BMW X1. Unveiled as a concept at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, the 2010 BMW X1 appears to have made it to prototype form almost unchanged. This particular test mule was caught testing recently on the Nürburgring during a break in the region’s typically cold and wet weather

CHECK OUT THE X6 HYBRID SPY ARTICLE: www.edmunds.com First shown as a concept at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, the 2010 BMW X6 Hybrid is now headed for production. Far from a fuel-sipping economy car, this gasoline-electric hybrid is designed to take the edge off fuel costs without giving up much in the way of SUV practicality or performance. Prototypes spotted in Death Valley reveal few significant styling changes from the recently introduced X6 other than an obvious bulge in the hood …

For Full Article: www.edmunds.com With the new 2008 BMW 135i, the German company explicitly promises a return to its compact sport sedan roots. This rear-drive two-door — in 230-horsepower 128i and 300-hp 135i form — “will reinvent the niche that the legendary BMW 2002 created,” says the company. Meanwhile, it also frees up the 2002′s lineal descendant, the current 3 Series, to move even further upmarket and grow even larger.
