@ysivyboi1 I would take the Passat Variant. I seem boring to U, right? Well, I personally use a Passat estate to move around my drum kit and a couple of my buddies’ guitars and amps. Cool enough for me. Maybe the 156 saloon was the coolest but for me it would be useless. And i would never become such a sick fuck to drive in a roaring Italian beauty with a huge estate ass lump in the back. That would be WRONG. So, passat for the cool people, who don’t want to look like murderers or pimps.

Some Alfa’s do have problems like oil usage or bushes wearing and other niggles.
So don’t buy one its a enthusiasts car for the petrolhead.
You want 100% reliability buy the Honda….

Alfa like any sporting car needs to be serviced properly and on time, to avoid a
lemon it needs a full history (like any car used) if it looks straight and sounds
healthy it will be as reliable as any other make.
I’ve had Audi’s in the past and my Alfa cost’d no more to own, but it is so much more stylish than the germanic offerings and really gets under the skin..
Alfa is so much more than the sum of it’s parts…forza alfa

I have a 156 sportwagon in metallic red, its a 2.0ltr twinspark, twincam variable
valve timing and its 9 years old, paint shines like new, no dings no scratches,
all the electrics work inc air con, electric seats etc.
And that engine not the fastest but when on cam it howls like a metallic werewolf.
I’ve had it 4 years and put 30,000 miles on it (now 55,000) and cannot bring
myself to ever sell it, it’s been so good i’ve just recently bought 6 yr old GTV 2.0ltr
Twinspark. forza alfa

@Leifang12 No, cause its a ford, and thats enough said. Fords In America suck badly, like the older Tauruses, the 500, and the Tempo. Not to mention that they will probably catch on fire at anytime durring the night.

The Honda Accord in Europe is the Acura in America. I like the American version of the accord better. But still, I love the Accord. My dad drives a 2006 Honda Accord 2.4 I-vtec. Cool. Gotta luv your Hondas and hate your Fords and Bimmers!

I kinda miss these old top gears, because back then it wasn’t all about the comedy…
There was no “challenges” like “Hey! Lets all buy a used car and drive them in to the bottom of the ocean and after that try sell them to hippies!!” It was about real motoring.

I’d just like to ask a legitimate question, if I may. I’m not picking sides or looking to carry on a flame war. If the Alfa 156 is as reliable as the 3 or 4 people here are making out, why did it finish 136th out of 138 cars in the JD Power survey?

I have never had a problem with my car.
The reputation is not applicable anymore. The older models did have problems, this is certainly true, the later ones are in a different league.
Another good car to get your hands on could be a SAAB. Also very good but not anywhere as rewarding as an Alfa to drive.
